Arche Designer Information

Arche shoes were the brainchild of Frenchman Pierre Hélaine. He began his shoemaking career in the 1930's. Self taught, with a wealth of talent and original ideas. His pre-war inventions include sandals, wedge heels, clogs and oxfords with wooden soles. His trademarks were innovation, quality and comfort. In the post war period he quickly became the most sought after shoemaker in Tours. He managed to make up for the lack of resources at the time, with ideas and innovation. He then had a spell managing the Majeste Company. The Majeste Company was a market leader in making moccasins. After Pierre had finished with the Majeste Company in 1968, he and his wife, Andree Hélaine founded Arche. Arches' fame increased greatly when they developed natural latex soles, made from pure hevea milk. Entirely French made from 100% natural materials, with nubuck leather uppers and hevea latex soles. The Arche collections are sold to independent companies in no less than 25 countries.
